I think that since the potted plant is a pleasant, familiar object from earth and the only living thing on the ship that doesn’t try to kill him, Goggles sits down and talks to it from time to time to try and maintain some degree of sanity while fighting The Many’s nightmare-fuel creatures and dealing with SHODAN’s insults.
I’d also like to think that when the Von Braun returns to earth, the UNN and TriOptimum give him a huge retirement package for saving the earth twice and he lives the rest of his life peacefully growing flowers to cope with the PTSD he’s inevitably going to get.
(I know I’m putting way too much emotional depth onto a mainly silent protagonist with essentially no personality but I can’t help it ok)
